TAURUS Systems GmbH, a joint venture between MBDA and Saab, has signed a contract with Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support to prepare a serial production line for the enhanced TAURUS NEO stand-off guided missile. The agreement supports plans to produce large quantities of the missile at a facility in Germany.

Thomas Gottschild, MBDA Executive Group Director Strategy, said: “MBDA has always been committed to delivering decisive capabilities that ensure European sovereignty. With TAURUS NEO, Germany is specifically building up its state-of-the-art deep strike capabilities, thereby providing a critical contribution to the deterrence capabilities of Europe and NATO. In so doing, MBDA demonstrates its unique expertise in Europe, offering a comprehensive portfolio of deep strike solutions launched from the ground, air, surface, and sub-surface.”

The Bundeswehr will use TAURUS NEO to strengthen its deep strike capability, enabling the German Air Force to engage targets from a safe distance while overcoming enemy air defence systems. With a range of more than 500 kilometres and high precision standards, the missile contributes to national and allied deterrence and defence.

MBDA has already started developing new technologies under a TAURUS maintenance and modernisation contract awarded in December 2024, supporting the earliest possible availability of the first systems. The new contract also covers further capability development and expanded production capacity for the modular TAURUS stand-off weapon.

Between 2023 and 2025, MBDA will have doubled its overall production of new missiles across the group. The company plans to invest EUR 2.4 billion between 2025 and 2029 to support further production ramp-up in the coming years.
