MBDA Deutschland presents concept for new Remote Carrier Multidomain Multirole Effector (RCM²)

By Defence Industry Europe

MBDA Deutschland has unveiled a new concept for a universal cruise missile, the Remote Carrier Multidomain Multirole Effector (RCM²). This new system is designed to complement existing Taurus air-launched missiles and offers deployment versatility across multiple platforms.

The RCM² can be launched from naval ships, ground-based systems, and various types of aircraft, including combat and transport planes. Combining the characteristics of loitering munitions and cruise missiles, the effector is designed to operate in swarms and function effectively in demanding environments.

A model of the RCM² was presented for the first time at the ILA 2024 exhibition. The system is planned to perform a range of missions, from kinetic strikes to other operational roles. Its design allows for the integration of multiple payloads, including warheads, electronic warfare systems, and optoelectronic reconnaissance equipment.

The missile will weigh approximately 340 kg and is projected to have a range of up to 500 km. Future plans include its integration with advanced platforms such as the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), expanding its compatibility with next-generation defence technologies.
