MBDA to showcase sovereign European defence innovations at Paris Air Show 2025

By Defence Industry Europe

MBDA, Europe’s leading manufacturer of complex weapon systems, is unveiling a range of sovereign European defence capabilities at the Paris Air Show 2025. The company is highlighting its evolving portfolio aimed at ensuring mission success for armed forces and the protection of European citizens.

Drawing on operational lessons from recent high-intensity conflicts, MBDA continues to innovate to meet both current and future defence challenges. “Thanks to its DNA of European cooperation, MBDA is the only player in Europe offering forces decisive, high-tech weapon systems,” the company stated.

Among the systems on display is the One Way Effector, developed to address the growing need for saturating adversary defences. The system is produced through an innovative scheme involving a drone manufacturer and civilian industrial partners, especially from the automotive sector, delivering high performance at lower cost.

Also presented is MBDA’s complete range of Remotely Controlled Ammunitions (RCA), which combine precision, reliability, agility and light weight. The RCA systems, including the AKERON RCX 50 and AKERON RCH 170, are designed for compartmentalised and hard-to-reach environments, offering both observation and neutralisation capabilities.

MBDA is additionally showcasing the SMART missile family, developed in response to gaps in SEAD/DEAD capabilities identified during recent operations. This new family of low-cost, intelligent saturation weapons is designed to equip next-generation fighter aircraft for future air combat.

The company is placing strong emphasis on its multi-layered air defence solutions, seen as critical in the current strategic context. MBDA’s systems cover threats from drones to hypersonic glide vehicles, with platforms including Sky Warden, MISTRAL, VL MICA, CAMM, ASTER and the upcoming Aquila.

Combat-proven systems such as the ASTER missile have already been used operationally, notably in the Red Sea against ballistic missile threats. Its upgraded version, the ASTER B1 NT, will enhance SAMP/T long-range air defence capabilities against hypersonic threats.

For the first time, MBDA is also presenting a model of the SPLINTER satellite, part of the French TOUTATIS project. This initiative is an experimental programme demonstrating defence actions in Low-Earth orbit for the French Space Command.

MBDA is also reinforcing its role in deep precision strike, offering a sovereign European portfolio that includes SCALP/Storm Shadow, TAURUS and the Land Cruise Missile (LCM). Future readiness is ensured through the Future Anti-Ship Missile/Future Cruise Missile (FC/ASW) programme, a collaboration between France, the UK and Italy.

Lastly, MBDA is preparing for the air combat of tomorrow with its unmatched air-to-air missile range, led by the Meteor missile. It is also developing new-generation systems, such as Expandable Remote Carriers, designed to support collaborative combat alongside aircraft like the Future Air Combat System (SCAF).
