The agreement closely follows the signing of a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) between Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Nammo AS, aimed at ensuring a long-term and secure supply of ammunition across the Nordic region. The SPA supports joint efforts to build an effective and integrated Nordic defence and improve interoperability between the participating countries.
Carl Axel Blomdahl, Head of FMV’s Department for Army Equipment, Weapons and Protection, highlighted the regional impact of the partnership: “With the strategic partnership in place, we are strengthening access to ammunition in the Nordics and the interoperability between partner countries. Together, we are building an effective and integrated Nordic defence.”
The framework agreement is a continuation of broader efforts to expand artillery ammunition production capacity in Sweden and the Nordic region. This initiative is backed by FMV, the Swedish Armed Forces, and the European Commission, and forms part of the EU’s Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP), under which Nammo received funding in 2024.
Nammo CEO Morten Brandtzæg welcomed the development, stating: “We are proud to deepen our partnership with FMV. This agreement not only strengthens the resilience and interoperability of Nordic defence, but also underlines our shared commitment to securing a reliable supply of advanced artillery ammunition for the future.”
According to FMV’s strategic buyer Olle Oswald, the contract will deliver immediate benefits. “With the framework agreement and an initial order in place, we are ensuring deliveries as quickly as possible, replenishing stockpiles, and increasing the Swedish Armed Forces’ endurance in combat,” he said.
