Major General Persson Herlitz will take up her post after the summer of 2026 at the Joint Intelligence and Security Division at NATO headquarters in Brussels. The division is responsible for delivering intelligence analysis, documentation and assessments to NATO’s civilian and military leaders and to Allied nations.

Her career has included service as military strategic operational commander at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters. She has also served on international missions in Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan, and previously headed the Swedish delegation to the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission, which monitors the Korean Armistice Agreement.

The Swedish Ministry of Defence said the appointment reflects both her extensive operational experience and Sweden’s aim to strengthen its presence within NATO structures. It added that her new role will support the Alliance’s intelligence and security functions at a strategically important time.
