Ukrainian experts shared their wartime procurement experiences with NATO representatives and allied delegates. NSPA General Manager Stacy Cummings opened the event, followed by remarks from Francesca Tortorella of NATO Headquarters Operations Division and Colonel Oleksandr Buniak from Ukraine’s Mission to NATO.
The seminar is part of the implementation of recommendations from the NATO-Ukraine Strategic Defence Procurement Review, endorsed during the Washington Summit in July 2024. These recommendations aim to reform Ukraine’s defence procurement system, enhancing accountability, transparency, and NATO-Ukraine interoperability to support Ukraine’s path to eventual NATO membership.
Led by Norway and requested by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, the Review was conducted by NATO and Ukrainian experts in collaboration with NSPA. It aligns with broader NATO initiatives to bolster Ukraine’s security, advance reforms in its defence sector, and integrate lessons from the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The seminar also supports the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC), which aims to leverage insights from the conflict to strengthen defence practices. This effort is part of the Comprehensive Assistance Package introduced in 2016, underscoring NATO’s commitment to aiding Ukraine’s security and reform ambitions.
