“The delivery of the first FDI for the Hellenic Navy, HS Kimon, represents a major milestone in our cooperation with Greece,” said Pierre Éric Pommellet, Chairman and CEO of Naval Group. “We are honored to put our expertise at the service of the Hellenic Navy’s sovereignty and naval superiority through the FDI frigates, which offer very high-level capabilities in all areas of combat.”
The handover to Greece comes two months after the first FDI was delivered to the French Navy, reflecting the pace of the production programme. Two additional frigates for the Hellenic Navy are scheduled for delivery in 2026, while the fourth vessel ordered in November will be delivered in three years.
Alongside the shipbuilding programme, the Hellenic Navy has awarded Naval Group the initial contract for in-service support of the FDI fleet. Maintenance and upgrade activities will be carried out in close cooperation with Naval Group Hellas and local industrial partners, drawing on a construction process that enables the production of two ships per year.
The FDI is a first-rate frigate designed for high-intensity operations, with proven capabilities in anti-aircraft, anti-submarine, anti-surface and asymmetric warfare. Its scalable and versatile design allows it to address current and emerging threats, including latest-generation submarines, supersonic missiles, cyberattacks and complex asymmetric challenges, while remaining suited to varied environments and rough seas worldwide.
