Arabelle Solutions has been selected by Naval Group to design and supply key components for the nuclear propulsion system of France’s future aircraft carrier. The contract covers the tailored design, development and manufacture by 2030 of four steam turbines, their associated speed regulators and four high-speed dryers.

The programme forms part of France’s next-generation aircraft carrier initiative, known as PANG. Arabelle Solutions will contribute to the propulsion system with technology developed specifically for naval nuclear applications.

“The teams at Arabelle Solutions and I are honoured to have been selected by Naval Group to take part in the programme for the new French aircraft carrier. Designing, manufacturing and maintaining cutting-edge nuclear propulsion technology for the French Navy is not only a major industrial responsibility, but also a direct contribution to strengthening French technological sovereignty,” said Catherine Cornand, President of Arabelle Solutions.

Naval Group said the selection reflects confidence in the company’s industrial capabilities and track record. The decision draws on Arabelle Solutions’ experience in developing and maintaining propulsion turbines for the French Navy.

“We selected Arabelle Solutions’ technologies for the programme of the new French aircraft carrier because they embody a tradition of innovation, industrial performance and a constant commitment to the success of its programmes,” said Laurent Coudray, Director of the PANG programme.

Arabelle Solutions’ expertise is supported by experience gained from the design and in-service maintenance of propulsion turbines for the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. This operational background is expected to inform the development of systems for the future platform.

The company provides turbine technologies and services used in more than one third of nuclear power plants worldwide. It supports customers globally in generating reliable electricity while contributing to the transition towards lower-carbon energy systems.

Headquartered in Nanterre, Arabelle Solutions employs around 3,600 people across 16 countries and operates as a subsidiary of EDF. EDF is an integrated energy company active across generation, distribution, trading, supply and energy services, with a focus on low-carbon electricity production.
