Lockheed Martin and Navantia have reached a significant milestone in developing the Combat System for the F-110 frigates at the AEGIS SCOMBA Integration Center (ASIC) in Moorestown, New Jersey. The achievement involved integrating the Engineering Development Model of the SPY-7 radar with the International Aegis Fire Control Loop weapon system and the SCOMBA system developed by Navantia Sistemas.

For the first time, real-time radar tracks were displayed on SCOMBA consoles, enabling simulated engagements on real targets detected by the radar. This integration reinforces the role of SCOMBA as the core of the Combat System for the F-110 frigates and forms the basis of their anti-air warfare capability.

According to Navantia, the level of integration demonstrated represents a decisive advance in the anti-air warfare defence capabilities of the frigate. Particular progress has been made in track management, doctrine control and simulated missile engagements on live targets.

The collaboration of Navantia Sistemas with Lockheed Martin, supported by the Spanish Navy and the US Navy, was essential in validating the system’s architecture and capabilities. The success of these activities is critical for the planned installation of the IAFCL system at the Land Based Test Site at Navantia Sistemas’ facilities in San Fernando.

Further installation of the SPY radar, IAFCL system and SCOMBA is scheduled at the Land-Based Systems Integration Center at Rota Naval Base. Tests there will be conducted in a coastal maritime environment before final integration on board the frigates.

Navantia and Lockheed Martin stated they remain committed to advancing the integration of the IAFCL system into the F-110 frigates. Both companies reaffirmed their dedication to technological innovation in the service of national defence.
