Navantia has presented a proposal in Copenhagen for strategic cooperation with Denmark in the naval domain, offering to support the delivery of future Danish naval programmes from 2030. The Spanish shipbuilder outlined a model that includes collaboration with Danish industry, life cycle support for vessels and training backed by the Spanish Navy.

The presentation coincided with the visit of the Spanish Navy frigate F105 to Copenhagen, where it is participating in NATO’s Steadfast Dart 26 exercise in the Baltic Sea. Navantia Chairman Ricardo Domínguez led the company delegation during the visit.

The Chief of the Royal Danish Navy, Rear Admiral Soren Kjeldsen, visited the F 105, where he was received by Spain’s Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Gonzalo Sanz Alisedo, and the ship’s Commanding Officer, Gabriel Pita da Veiga Subirats. Around one hundred representatives from Danish institutions and companies within the naval sector also toured the vessel.

The F105 is the fifth and most modern frigate of the F 100 series and is regarded as one of NATO’s most advanced ships due to its anti-air capabilities, interoperability with allied forces and combat system. Its presence in Denmark was presented as a demonstration of the cooperation model between Navantia and the Spanish Navy, covering ship design, requirements definition and life cycle support.

“Navantia, with the support of the Spanish Navy and the Spanish Government, is ready to act as a long term strategic partner for Danish Defence. We can provide Denmark with state of the art naval capabilities tailored to current challenges, with a flexible collaboration model and delivering capabilities that ensure rapid delivery. Navantia is a reliable and long term partner,” said Ricardo Domínguez.

The proposal follows the Royal Danish Navy’s announcement of a new naval acquisition plan, including frigates. Navantia highlighted its experience in international collaboration programmes, including technology transfer and cooperation with local industries since its first Australian programme in 2007, and offered to maximise industrial return through partnerships with Danish companies.

The company also emphasised its expertise in systems integration and life cycle support. During the visit, Navantia presented the F110 frigate programme for the Spanish Navy, currently under execution and progressing on schedule, as well as the ALFA 4000 light frigate, focusing on its technological innovations and industrial capabilities designed to improve reliability and speed in shipbuilding.
