Poland’s Ministry of National Defense has declared Full Operational Capability for the Integrated Battle Command System-enabled WISŁA medium-range air defence system. Poland is the first U.S. NATO ally to fully operationalise IBCS, strengthening NATO’s eastern flank with integrated air and missile defence capabilities.

The declaration follows a successful international live fire test that demonstrated IBCS’ ability to engage and intercept airborne targets. The achievement marks a major milestone for the Northrop Grumman-developed system and for allied air defence integration.

Poland’s WISŁA programme is now combat-ready with two IBCS-enabled adapted Patriot sensors and launchers. These assets can detect and engage threats including missiles and aircraft through multi-sensor data fusion, with Polish crews trained and certified to operate the system.

Kenn Todorov, vice president and general manager, command and control and weapons integration at Northrop Grumman, said: “Poland’s declaration of Full Operational Capability for IBCS showcases our ability to deliver interoperable defense solutions at scale with Poland, the U.S. and allies.” He added: “As a cutting-edge solution for integrated air and missile defense, IBCS continuously enhances its capabilities with innovative, unified, and cost-effective approaches to meet global air and missile defense demands.”

Todorov also stated: “This milestone provides advanced capabilities to effectively address complex threats, made possible through our strong collaboration with Polish industry and Northrop Grumman.” The programme reflects close defence cooperation between Poland and the United States.

IBCS enables interoperability with U.S. and NATO systems, allowing real-time, multi-nation threat tracking and a layered air defence network. The next phase of the WISŁA programme will expand to eight batteries of adapted Patriot equipment, supported by increased involvement from Polish industry in assembly, maintenance and production.
