The U.S. Department of Defence announced on 2 January that USD 347.6 million of the contract’s value has already been obligated from Poland’s fiscal 2024 FMS funds. Work will be conducted across multiple U.S. states, including Alabama, Florida, Maryland, and Virginia, with a projected completion date of 30 December 2029. The Army Contracting Command received 21 bids for the project through an online solicitation.
Poland is the first international operator of IBCS, which serves as the command-and-control backbone for its air defence system. The country is integrating IBCS with advanced components such as the Patriot PAC-3+ missile systems, MBDA CAMM missile systems, and modern radar stations, creating a unified and highly capable air defence network.
The contract builds on previous U.S.-Poland defence cooperation efforts, including the U.S. State Department’s September 2023 approval of Poland’s USD 4 billion FMS request for IBCS and related equipment. The system enhances Poland’s missile defence capabilities and strengthens interoperability with U.S. and NATO forces.
IBCS is a U.S. Army programme designed to integrate sensors and effectors, providing commanders with real-time situational awareness for better decision-making. It is a key enabler for multidomain operations, ensuring seamless coordination across air and missile defence systems.
Northrop Grumman has demonstrated significant progress in delivering this technology. In June 2023, the company delivered the first full production IBCS Engagement Operations Center and Integrated Fire Control Network Relay to the U.S. Army. This achievement underscores IBCS’s pivotal role in modern military operations.
