NSPA to upgrade infrastructure at Pabradė Training Area in Lithuania

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) will provide Design and Build Services for the construction of new training area infrastructure in Pabradė, Lithuania. The construction of new infrastructure respond to the requirements of allied forces deploying in the country. The new facilities will enhance training capabilities and living conditions, contributing to improving military mobility in the eastern flank of the Alliance.

The adaptation of the infrastructure in the training complex is tailored to the troops’ needs and includes accommodation, a multipurpose building, classrooms, offices, an expanded dining facility, a gymnasium, parking areas, new roads, as well as helipads, among other upgrades.

On 14 February 2023, NSPA signed a contract with MERKO, the prime contractor that will provide all the design and build services. The works will commence in February 2023 and are expected to be completed by 2026.

The training compound in Pabradė is the largest training area in Lithuania, allowing thousands of troops to train together and test their readiness. The compound has experienced successive modernization in the past years, enabling an increase in the frequency of NATO exercises in the area.

The project, co-funded by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence, is part of the NATO Security Investment Programme (NSIP and it is jointly funded by all member states.
