Commander of the Bulgarian Navy, Rear Admiral Mihaylov, stated during the ceremony: “We are very proud to be part of the ceremony of starting steel cutting for construction of the second Multipurpose Modular Patrol Vessel (MMPV) for the Bulgarian Navy. This ship will give the opportunity to Bulgarian naval salors to fulfil all tasks for defending national maritime interests and to successfully participate in allied operations and missions.”
“The fact that we are standing here today celebrating the steel cutting of the second vessel is the result of the excellent collaboration with our customer and with our local partners, especially MTG Dolphin. We have been working together, side by side, for two years now, progressing towards the realization of the most important naval project in Bulgaria to date. This fills us with pride“, said Dirk Malgowski, Managing Director of NVL B.V. & Co. KG.
The vessels, which are 90 metres in length, with a displacement of approximately 2,300 t, are based on a proven NVL design and feature an integrated combat management system. The units are predestined for tasks within the framework of international alliance missions for NATO and the EU, and will enable the Bulgarian Navy to counter air and land based threats as well as surface and undersea threats.
Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025, and the second vessel a year later.
“We are honored to be partner of NVL for MMPV project and to work together with one of the most advanced European shipbuilders. Our cooperation is outstanding and results speak for themselves“, said Svetlin Stoyanov, CEO of MTG Dolphin.
