Electro Optic Systems hosted a German defence delegation at its Canberra facility on March 26, led by Boris Pistorius. The visit formed part of Pistorius’ first official trip to Australia and followed the announcement of the Australia–European Union Security and Defence Partnership.

The delegation included German ministers, parliamentarians and defence personnel. During the visit, officials were briefed on EOS’ counter-drone and space control technologies.

The delegation reviewed systems including the Slinger remote weapon system and the Apollo 100 kW high-energy laser weapon. EOS also presented its Atlas space control capability, designed for a range of missions from observation to threat engagement.

Company representatives outlined their capacity to support Germany’s counter-drone requirements through localised production of the Apollo system. EOS said this approach could enable faster delivery and lower costs compared with competing solutions.

The company highlighted its recent export activities, including a 2025 contract to supply a 100 kW high-energy laser weapon to the Netherlands. The system is designed to neutralise up to 30 drones per minute at significantly lower cost than traditional missile-based systems.

EOS said its Slinger system is already deployed operationally and has been sold to multiple countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Australia and the United States. The system is currently used to support military operations in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The delegation also received an overview of EOS’ space capabilities, including the Atlas ground-based laser system available in fixed and mobile configurations. Officials said the system is designed to address the growing challenges in the space domain.

EOS Chief Executive Officer Andreas Schwer said the visit provided an opportunity to present the company’s capabilities directly to German officials. “Today’s visit has provided EOS with a unique opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities and its ability to immediately support Germany as it addresses growing regional threats to its citizens and sovereignty.”

“EOS continues to expand globally, we foresee strong cooperation with the German government in the future,” he added.
