Poland acquires a large number of AMRAAM missiles from the United States

By Defence Industry Europe

On August 9, the Polish defence procurement agency signed a contract with the United States for the delivery of several hundred AIM-120C AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, manufactured by the American defense giant RTX. The deal is valued at USD 850 million.

According to a brief statement published on social media by Poland’s Deputy Minister of National Defence, Paweł Bejda, the ordered AMRAAM missiles will be delivered to the Polish Armed Forces between 2029 and 2033. These missiles will be used as air-to-air weapons for the F-16 and F-35 fighter jets of the Polish Air Force. Integration of this weapon system with the FA-50 jets acquired by Poland from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is also possible.

The Polish government has not disclosed the specific number of contracted AMRAAMs. However, in March, the United States Department of State approved the sale of up to 745 missiles to Poland, along with 50 LAU-129 aircraft missile launchers. The value of that potential deal was estimated by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) at USD 1.69 billion.
