Poland selects L3Harris AN/ALQ-254 Viper Shield electronic warfare system for F-16 fleet upgrade

By Defence Industry Europe

Poland has chosen L3Harris Technologies to supply its AN/ALQ-254 Viper Shield electronic warfare system as part of the country’s F-16 Viper upgrade programme. The acquisition will be made through the United States government and will improve the offensive and defensive capabilities of Poland’s F-16 Block 52+ aircraft.

The system will provide Poland with the same advanced electronic warfare features already used by international operators of the F-16 Block 70 variant. According to L3Harris, Viper Shield is designed to ensure battlefield relevance by supporting future capability upgrades.

“We are honored Poland selected us to upgrade their F-16V multirole fighters,” said Ed Zoiss, President, Space and Airborne Systems, L3Harris. “Viper Shield is in production and will enable pilots to identify, locate and counter rapidly evolving threats faster with enhanced success.”

The system can be installed in multiple configurations, including full integration with the F-16 Block 70/72 aircraft, retrofit options for earlier versions, or as an external pod. L3Harris confirmed that it is currently providing the suite to F-16 fleets in seven countries and is engaged in further discussions with additional U.S. allies and partner nations.
