Pratt & Whitney, a division of American aerospace giant RTX, has signed a letter of intent with Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze Nr. 2 S.A. (WZL2) to explore expanded maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. The collaboration aims to meet the increasing sustainment needs of the Polish Air Force, particularly for F100 engines.

The F100 engines power Poland’s fleet of F-16 aircraft, with Pratt & Whitney Rzeszów having built the original engines between 2005 and 2008. Today, the facility continues to produce static structures and critical rotating parts, supporting new F100 engines and global sustainment efforts.

“We are identifying ways to increase F100 engine sustainment work in Poland to ensure our Polish ally has the propulsion power they need,” said Piotr Owsicki, general director of Pratt & Whitney Rzeszów. “We plan to use existing knowledge and experience, as well as infrastructure testing facilities, to provide the full cycle of F100 engine maintenance in country.”

WZL2, Poland’s key partner in defence aviation, expressed enthusiasm for expanding its collaboration with Pratt & Whitney. “Participation in subsequent projects is a development of WZL2’s competencies beyond the repair of F100 engine modules, which in the future will give more opportunities to support the Polish Air Force,” said Dariusz Sokólski, president of WZL2.

The expanded partnership aligns with the Polish Air Force’s potential procurement of the F-15EX, which is powered by the F100 engine. Pratt & Whitney highlighted that Poland’s familiarity with the engine and its existing MRO capabilities provide a cost-effective and low-risk path to maintaining the F-15EX and F-16 fleets, enhancing overall fleet readiness.
