Quantum Systems secures major drone contract with Spanish Armed Forces

By Defence Industry Europe

German drone manufacturer Quantum Systems has won two major tenders in Spain, becoming the Spanish Armed Forces' main supplier for mid-range aerial reconnaissance. The company announced that Spain is the first customer to adopt its full Family of Systems, including the Vector and Twister platforms.

A landmark framework agreement has been signed between the Spanish Armed Forces and Quantum Systems for the delivery of new reconnaissance capabilities. As part of the deal, Spain has ordered 91 Vector systems, comprising a total of 182 drones.

The Vector drone will be used across various branches of the Spanish military for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations. Initial deployment will begin with the Spanish Army (Ejército de Tierra) and the Spanish Marine Infantry (Infantería de Marina), with deliveries set to start in 2025.

“Spain will be at the forefront of the use of tactical aerial reconnaissance in Europe,” said Martin Karkour, Chief Sales Officer of Quantum Systems. “The Spanish Armed Forces recognize that aerial intelligence is a strategic asset, across service branches. We are proud to support them with scalable, full-spectrum ISTAR solutions that enable faster, better-informed decision-making.”

Further details regarding the deployment of the Vector system and the framework agreement will be shared during the International Defence & Security Exhibition (FEINDEF) in Madrid, taking place from 12 to 14 May. This announcement is expected to highlight Spain’s growing investment in advanced aerial intelligence technologies.

Alongside the Vector systems, the Spanish Air Force has also procured multiple Twister drones. These are short-range reconnaissance systems designed for rapid and dynamic missions carried out by specialised forces.

The dual procurement marks Spain as the first nation to integrate both Twister and Vector into a unified operational framework. By doing so, the Spanish Armed Forces will benefit from Quantum Systems’ full Family of Systems architecture for ISTAR missions across close and mid-range operations.
