Israeli defence company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. has announced a new agreement with the U.S. Army aimed at advancing missile technology. The collaboration was revealed at the AUSA Global Force Symposium & Exposition in Huntsville, Alabama, marking a key step in strengthening military ties.

Through its U.S.-based subsidiary, Rafael Systems Global Sustainment, LLC (RSGS), Rafael has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center (DEVCOM AvMC). The goal of the partnership is to assess and improve the SPIKE family of missiles to better match the evolving operational requirements of U.S. forces.

The SPIKE missile system is widely recognised for its precision and adaptability and is currently in service with over 40 nations, including 20 NATO members. The agreement will focus on tactical variants such as the Spike LR2, Spike SR, Spike ER2, and the Spike Firefly loitering munition.

LTG (Ret) Joe Anderson, CEO of RSGS, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative. “As the defence landscape continues to evolve, partnerships like this CRADA agreement between Rafael and DEVCOM play a crucial role in driving innovation and ensuring the readiness of the U.S. Army,” he said.
