This new partnership builds on the existing collaboration between Indra and Rheinmetall, including their recent agreement involving Rheinmetall Electronics and the Leopard 2E Combat System. Rheinmetall, a leading global supplier of tracked and wheeled armoured vehicles, is also the original designer of the Keiler NG Armoured Breaching Vehicle and holds key technological shares in the Leopard 2A4 tank.
Rheinmetall brings considerable experience in armoured vehicle design, production, and support, and already maintains a strong presence in Spain through REM S.A.U. Indra, for its part, is a major player in defence systems and serves as the local designer and manufacturer of the Leopard 2E combat system, as well as the supplier of the Lince Battle Management System currently deployed in Spain.
In addition, Indra has developed the Maestre Mission System for the Spanish Army’s VCR 8×8 programme and holds the main design authority for the national Battle Management System. The company is also investing heavily in infrastructure to support the integration, production, and transformation of armoured vehicles within Spain.
“With this MoU, Indra and Rheinmetall, two leading European companies in the field of defence technology, start a strong alliance to support the efforts of the Spanish Armed Forces to modernize their fleet of combat vehicles,” said Eduardo Veen Martinez, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Landsysteme. Ángel Escribano, Chairman of Indra Group, added, “The agreement with Rheinmetall represents a significant step forward in Indra’s strategy of forming alliances and partnerships to strengthen its military vehicle manufacturing and digitalisation capabilities in Spain,” stating further, “This is an example of what Europeans can achieve when working together.”
Indra Group is a global leader in defence, air traffic, and space technology through Indra, and digital transformation through its Minsait division, with operations in over 140 countries. Rheinmetall, with more than 31,000 employees across 171 locations worldwide, generated €9.8 billion in sales in 2024 and remains a key player in international security and defence innovation.
