Rheinmetall and Singapore’s DSTA join forces to advance military training technologies

By Defence Industry Europe

German defence firm Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) to collaborate on cutting-edge simulation and training systems. The agreement, announced at IMDEX Asia 2025, will focus on digitalisation and experimentation, incorporating technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and extended reality.

The partnership aims to enhance the training capabilities of the Singapore Armed Forces by developing more realistic and engaging training solutions. Both parties will leverage their technical expertise to jointly explore next-generation simulation technologies.

In addition to technological cooperation, the MoU includes provisions for talent development initiatives. These will offer DSTA engineers and interns opportunities to participate in exchange programmes, work attachments, and internships at Rheinmetall, enabling them to deepen their technical skills.

Ms Yeoh Ee-Wen, Director of Simulation and Training Systems at DSTA, stated: “This collaboration will enable Rheinmetall and DSTA to tap on each other’s strengths to explore advanced simulation technologies to develop more realistic, engaging and effective training capabilities. In doing so, we hope to harness the transformative potential of these technologies to enhance training for the Singapore Armed Forces.”

Tim Krabbes, Head of Sales for Rheinmetall’s Integrated Electronic Systems business unit, emphasised the broader significance of the agreement: “Rheinmetall and DSTA bring together deep expertise, technological excellence, and a shared vision of leveraging digital transformation to push the boundaries of simulation and next-generation solutions. I would like to stress that this collaboration is not just about technology – it is also about fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and more importantly trust.”

DSTA is a leading technology organisation in Singapore responsible for delivering advanced capabilities to support the nation’s defence. Its engineers and IT professionals apply multidisciplinary expertise to strengthen Singapore’s national defence and support broader technological initiatives.
