Rheinmetall Nordic opened a new facility in Skoppum, Norway, on 1 October 2026, expanding its capacity to develop, manufacture and integrate defence systems. The site will serve the Norwegian Armed Forces, international customers and other Rheinmetall businesses.

The 4,579-square-metre facility will initially accommodate 100 employees and has capacity for 127. Rheinmetall has signed a 15-year lease, with potential for future expansion of up to around 5,000 square metres.

The premises bring additional production flexibility and support closer collaboration across departments and programmes. Rheinmetall said they will also improve its ability to manage systems throughout their service life, including logistics and customer support.

“The opening of our new site in Skoppum represents a significant investment in the future of Rheinmetall Nordic,” said Morten Kjørum, the subsidiary’s chief executive. “It lays the foundation for greater capacity, innovation, and value creation, while also strengthening our ability to support our customers and partners.”

The site’s work will focus on electro-optical systems, fire control systems, situational awareness technology, weapon accessories and system integration. These are established areas of specialisation for Rheinmetall Nordic, which has more than 70 years of experience in Norway’s defence industry.

Rheinmetall linked the expansion to demand for defence readiness, resilient supply chains and independent industrial capabilities. The company said strengthening its Norwegian operations would support both domestic military requirements and long-term technical services for allied and international customers.

Norwegian military, government and regional representatives attended the opening alongside customers and industry partners. Representatives from Rheinmetall companies across Europe also participated, with factory tours and technology demonstrations included in the event programme.

Rheinmetall Nordic is wholly owned by Rheinmetall AG. It combines Norwegian development and manufacturing expertise with the parent group’s technology, resources and industrial capabilities.
