The ammunition, designed for the Gepard anti-aircraft gun, will enhance Ukraine’s ability to counter airborne threats such as drones. Production will take place at Rheinmetall’s facility in Unterlüß, where a dedicated production line was rebuilt in early 2023 to meet increased demand for this specific type of ammunition.
Germany has supplied Ukraine with 55 decommissioned Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, which have proven effective in air defence operations over the past two years. These systems have played a critical role in Ukraine’s defensive efforts amid ongoing hostilities.
Rheinmetall has also delivered other advanced air defence technologies to Ukraine, including the Skynex system, which utilises AHEAD programmable airburst ammunition. The company is recognised globally for its expertise in cannon-based air defence systems and related technologies.
Beyond ammunition, Rheinmetall’s offerings include a comprehensive range of fire control systems, missile launchers, air surveillance tools, and radar technologies. This latest contract underscores the company’s role as a key supplier to Ukraine’s military and a leader in the international defence industry.
