Türkiye’s domestically developed Tayfun short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) has successfully completed another fleet acceptance test, striking its designated target with high precision, defence firm Roketsan confirmed on Sunday. The missile, developed by Roketsan, demonstrated its pinpoint accuracy and performance during the test, meeting all operational expectations.

“With its long range, Tayfun is a strong guarantee of our deterrence,” Roketsan said in an official statement. The company added, “Through systems developed with domestic and national capabilities, we continue to strengthen the power and deterrence of our Armed Forces.”

Roketsan General Manager Murat Ikinci described Tayfun as “the striking force of our strategic deterrence,” noting its growing role in national defence stockpiles. “We continue to rapidly expand our Armed Forces’ strategic stockpiles with Tayfun missiles,” Ikinci stated.

Türkiye’s top defence official, Professor Dr. Haluk Gorgun, also highlighted the successful test, sharing video footage of the missile launch. “A quiet preparation. A single moment… and a signature written across the sky. A beautiful day, another successful test. With determined steps, range extends, and strike precision increases,” he said, adding, “Thanks to Roketsan and everyone who contributed.”

The Tayfun missile, operating at hypersonic speeds, offers a high degree of accuracy and electronic warfare resilience, allowing it to evade air defences while maintaining precise targeting. Designed for use in all weather and lighting conditions, it provides rapid launch readiness and flexible deployment.

According to Roketsan’s specifications, Tayfun is engineered to deliver deep-impact strikes with a circular error probability of 10 metres or less. The missile exceeds a range of 280 kilometres, is 6.5 metres long, has a 610-millimetre diameter, and weighs 2,300 kilograms.

Tayfun carries a pre-fragmented, fragmentary warhead and uses coordinate guidance, making it capable of targeting strategic assets such as command centres, missile systems, aircraft hangars, and military infrastructure. Its hypersonic speed and countermeasures enhance survivability against sophisticated air defence systems.

First tested in August 2022, Tayfun marks Türkiye’s entry into the short-range ballistic missile class, quickly progressing from prototype to operational use. Roketsan finalised qualification testing and began serial production within three years, reflecting rapid development and integration into military planning.

The missile is deployed via the Koluman-manufactured DERMAN 8×8 carrier vehicle, providing high mobility and operational flexibility. The latest test reaffirms the Tayfun system’s role as a cornerstone in Türkiye’s evolving defence strategy.
