Although international law permits the right of passage in Exclusive Economic Zones, the Netherlands escorts all Russian naval vessels in its waters. This approach ensures vigilance and aims to prevent sabotage of underwater infrastructure by Russian ships.

The escorting of Russian warships is carried out in coordination with the Netherlands Coastguard. The Ministry of Defence stated that this action reflects the country’s ongoing commitment to maritime security.
