The United States Department of War has announced a production contract with RTX for the manufacture and delivery of NASAMS fire units destined for Taiwan. The USD 699 million agreement was signed in November and is scheduled for completion by the end of February 2031.

Full financing was activated at the time of signature and is entirely funded by Taiwan. The Department of War is acting as intermediary under the Foreign Military Sales procedure, which governs the transfer.

The US Department of State approved the sale in October 2024, covering three NASAMS fire units and RTX AMRAAM-ER surface-to-air missiles. According to available information, the intergovernmental Letter of Offer and Acceptance was confirmed in February 2025.

The approved package has a value of around USD 760 million and was originally expected to be fulfilled by the end of 2030. The new production contract formalises the manufacturing stage needed to deliver the systems.

Taiwan plans to integrate NASAMS with the Patriot air and missile defence system to create wider defensive groupings. The combined capability is intended to strengthen protection over selected areas of the island.

Authorities in Taipei ultimately intend to procure twelve NASAMS fire units. This signals that further phases of the programme may follow in the coming months as the long-term plan progresses.
