In total, during the night, the Russians used as many as 151 air assault means of various types, placing the raid among the strongest attacks of this war. Throughout the night, 63 Shahid-type strike drones were launched from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk region. From the Belgorod region and occupied Crimea, 12 Iskander-M ballistic missiles were launched. From 13 Tu-95MS strategic bombers operating over the Caspian Sea, 40 Kh-101 and Kh-555 cruise missiles were fired.
Additionally, five Tu-22M3 bombers launched five supersonic cruise missiles Kh-22 from over the Rostov region. Meanwhile, from 10 MiG-31K fighters operating over the Tambov region, seven Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles were launched. Tactical aviation, in the form of two Su-30 or Su-34 aircraft, attacked from over the Zaporizhzhia region with two light cruise missiles Kh-59. From launchers located in the Belgorod and Kursk regions, 22 anti-aircraft missiles from the S-300 and S-400 systems were also launched in a ballistic mode, targeting ground facilities.
Anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force and Ground Forces, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare systems participated in repelling the attack. As a result of these actions, according to the Ukrainian General Staff, 92 air targets were destroyed, including 55 Shahid drones, 35 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles, and two Kh-59 missiles.
From the above, it follows that several Shahids, all supersonic Kh-22, as well as ballistic and aeroballistic missiles penetrated through the anti-aircraft fire. Damage from missile strikes or their falling debris was reported in the Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
Among other targets, the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant in Zaporizhzhia, the largest of its kind in the country, was hit. The turbine hall responsible for electricity production was destroyed, but the solid dam structure withstood the impacts, and currently, no danger of its breach has been reported.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, rescuers extinguished a fire at another power plant caused by Russian shelling. The total area affected by the fire was about 900 square meters. A total of 169 firefighters and 56 units of equipment participated in extinguishing the fire. Two facility employees were injured.
In Kharkiv, the TEC-5 power plant (the second largest in the country) was accurately shelled. As a result, about 700,000 people in the entire Kharkiv region are without electricity. The city and region were hit by more than 15 missiles, which reportedly hit five substations. Currently, power shortages in Ukraine’s energy system are being emergency supplemented with help from Romania, Slovakia, and Poland.
In Zaporizhzhia, the shelling destroyed seven detached houses, damaged 2 industrial buildings, and 37 residential buildings. 10 people were injured and three are considered missing.
In Khmelnytskyi, two people were killed and eight were injured. A 21-year-old woman was rescued from the rubble of a residential building.
The Ukrainian side does not disclose the damages inflicted on military facilities. However, it is known that the Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles targeted the area of Starokostiantyniv. It is home to the base of the Ukrainian 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade, which is armed with Su-24M aircraft used for launching Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles. Meanwhile, some Kh-101 missiles reached the area of Stryi, near the border with Poland.
