Saab has commemorated the 250th birthday of the U.S. Navy by reaffirming its commitment to supporting naval operations with advanced technologies and innovation across multiple domains. The company has partnered with the Navy since 2005 and continues to deliver mission-critical systems that enhance maritime readiness and capability.

“Our partnership with the U.S. Navy is the cornerstone of Saab, Inc.’s strategy to contribute combat capabilities to our nation’s military. We seek to provide systems and platforms that fill critical requirement gaps and to provide full support throughout the lifecycle of these programs,” said Tom Disy, a business development director at Saab, Inc.

The collaboration began with the delivery of the Sea Giraffe 3D radar system to the USS Independence and has expanded significantly since then. Saab’s SPS-77 radar is now installed on every Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship in the Navy’s fleet.

Saab’s U.S.-based teams continue to support naval dominance through a wide range of efforts, including radar development in Syracuse, New York, and anti-submarine warfare training systems in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The company is producing approximately 10,000 MK39 Expendable Mobile ASW Training Targets and providing services with its AUV-62-AT platform, which will underpin the Navy’s future MK 66 HUTT system.

In San Diego, Saab’s Skapa tech incubator has collaborated with Swedish engineers to develop the Enforcer 3, an autonomous multi-mission research vessel. This effort supports the broader Autonomous Ocean Core initiative, aimed at delivering vessel-agnostic autonomous control systems for maritime use.

“I had the privilege of serving in the U.S. Navy for over 26 years,” said Michael Brasseur, Saab, Inc.’s Chief Strategy Officer and General Manager of Skapa. “At Saab, it’s incredible to continue to work hand in hand with the Navy – not just to react to changing technologies and challenges – but to take the lead on shaping the future with some of the smartest minds in the nation, all dedicated to keeping people and society safe.”
