Saab has signed a framework agreement with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for the compact Giraffe 1X radar system and has received an initial order under the deal. The order is valued at approximately SEK 650 million and includes immediate deliveries.

The framework agreement covers the use of Giraffe 1X across different parts of the Swedish Armed Forces. The first call-off order includes the system in a Compact Radar Module configuration, allowing fast and simple installation on most platforms.

“With this order we contribute to immediately strengthening the Swedish Armed Forces’ ability to detect threats in the air and at the sea surface,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance. He added, “This is yet another step in our cooperation with FMV and the Swedish Armed Forces to strengthen Swedish defence capabilities.”

Giraffe 1X is a compact, high-performing 3D radar that is already contracted and in service with several customers and can be used for air defence, counter unmanned aerial systems, site protection and marine applications. The software-based system can be continuously upgraded to address new and evolving threats.
