The General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) announced that Saudi Arabia has increased the localisation of its military spending to 24.89% by the end of 2024. The announcement was made during the Annual Military Industries Sector Meeting in Riyadh, which brought together local and international defence companies, government entities, and investors.

This rise marks a significant step toward the Kingdom’s target of surpassing 50% localisation by 2030. The progress reflects the continued development of regulatory and legislative frameworks, the expansion of national supply chains, and increased investment in Saudi Arabia’s military industries sector.

According to GAMI, the 24.89% figure represents a “pivotal stage in the development of Saudi Arabia’s military industries sector.” The localisation strategy aims to build a sustainable national industry capable of achieving self-sufficiency and enhancing the Kingdom’s strategic autonomy.

Saudi Arabia remains committed to establishing international partnerships with global defence manufacturers to transfer advanced technologies and localise industrial capabilities. GAMI stated that “the presence of major international defense companies in the Kingdom reflects strong confidence in its investment environment and regulatory frameworks.”

During the meeting, GAMI honoured government agencies and companies contributing to localisation through its Excellence Award in Localising Military Industries. Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), Lockheed Martin, and Roketsan Saudi Arabia also shared their experiences in a session titled: “The Role of Global Companies in Developing Local Supply Chains for Military Industries.”

GAMI confirmed it “continues to enable the sector in Saudi Arabia through international partnerships with leading global manufacturers to transfer advanced technologies and localize industrial capabilities.” This effort supports the wider goal of building a sustainable, advanced military industry and strengthening national defence readiness.

The annual meeting was attended by ministers, senior officials, CEOs, and industry leaders, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s growing role in global defence manufacturing. The event served as “a strategic platform” and, according to GAMI, “reflects the positive image of Saudi Arabia as a significant industrial power in the defense sector and reinforces its position as a stable and attractive investment destination built on clear strategic plans.”
