Slovakia and Poland have signed a defence industry cooperation agreement focusing on joint production of 155mm ammunition, Poland's Piorun air defence systems, and the K2 main battle tanks, alongside other military collaboration initiatives.

The agreement highlights four primary areas of collaboration. First, the two countries will work together to enhance the production of 155mm ammunition, an area where Slovakia has considerable manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, Slovakia expressed interest in Poland’s Piorun portable air defence systems, while both sides explored the possibility of jointly producing armoured vehicles based on the Polish Rosmak vehicle, with a Slovak turret.

Slovakia also expressed interest in Poland’s production of K2 tanks, which are set to be manufactured in Poland. Minister Kaliňák emphasized the importance of defence self-sufficiency and the need to develop both military and production capabilities to ensure preparedness in times of crisis.

The meeting also addressed the issue of defence spending, with both ministers agreeing on the importance of investing in infrastructure. Kaliňák praised Poland’s initiative to build a new military hospital, which could also be of assistance to Slovakia if needed.

Both ministers highlighted the strengthening of NATO’s eastern flank as a shared priority. Minister Kaliňák also thanked Poland for its support in protecting Slovak airspace, reaffirming Slovakia’s commitment to providing similar support once its air defence systems are fully operational.
