SMARTSHOOTER introduces SMASH DOME: a new solution for counter-drone defence

By Defence Industry Europe

SMARTSHOOTER, an Israeli defence technology company, has unveiled its latest counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) solution, SMASH DOME. Designed for portability and flexibility, the system offers layered defence capabilities against aerial threats, addressing the growing challenges posed by drones in various operational settings.

The proliferation of drones as low-cost, high-impact tools has created new vulnerabilities, with many drones now featuring defences against traditional GNSS jamming methods. SMASH DOME provides a multi-layered approach by combining advanced detection and tracking systems with precise kinetic interception, offering a cost-effective response to these evolving threats.

At the centre of SMASH DOME’s interception capabilities is the SMASH Hopper, a lightweight, remote-controlled weapon station (LRCWS). Equipped with an assault rifle and a Fire Control System (FCS), the SMASH Hopper is designed to deliver accurate targeting and interception of drones, independent of their communication links or type. The Hopper can also be integrated with Command-and-Control (C2) systems such as ATAK, enabling automatic target detection and tracking with real-time ballistic calculations.

The system also includes active RF radar and passive optical sensors to detect, classify, and track drones within ranges of 1–2 kilometres, depending on the sensor type. These sensors continuously relay data to SMARTSHOOTER’s proprietary tracking system, ensuring real-time monitoring and interception readiness. SMASH DOME is designed for use on various platforms, including ground stations, vehicles, and at borders or strategic facilities.

SMARTSHOOTER CEO Michal Mor emphasised the importance of effective counter-drone measures. “The SMASH DOME solution offers a precise, cost-efficient method to address the growing threat of rogue drones. Its ability to integrate with existing Command-and-Control systems and minimise ammunition use makes it a versatile and reliable addition to both standalone and layered defence frameworks,” she said.

The system’s person-in-the-loop design allows operators to maintain control and visual confirmation of targets through the FCS feed. This ensures precision in operations, enabling the automatic tracking and interception of drones while reducing the risk of collateral damage.

With the introduction of SMASH DOME, SMARTSHOOTER continues to expand its portfolio of solutions aimed at addressing modern security challenges. The system is positioned as a practical option for protecting critical infrastructure and operational areas against the increasing threat of unmanned aerial systems.
