The radar uses an AESA (Active Electronic Scanned Array) antenna developed by IAI’s Elta Systems. As a result, it can simultaneously monitor airspace as well as land or water surface. The radar is designed for use in Exclusive Economic Zone (EZZ) missions and in other scenarios.
Compared to its predecessors, the STAR-X 3D radar has a reduced size and lower weight and power for more cost-effective operation. It features a robust, modular design and fully digital architecture and modular software. This facilitates its upgrade, which is relatively inexpensive, and dealing with new threats.
STAR-X 3D can be used to combat a variety of threats, including terrorism, smuggling and illegal fishing. It can also be used in search and rescue operations. Ships equipped with the new radar can also be used to protect critical maritime infrastructure.
