Land-based missions require a unique set of technologies for successful completion. L3Harris' family of electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) imaging sensor systems, including the WESCAM MX-0 RSTA and the WESCAM MX-GCS MK2, are built to provide operators and commanders a superior perspective of the battlefield. Combined with robust software applications, including WIDOW, that are tailored for the sensors through L3Harris’ custom ISR software development process, each EO/IR system is adapted to perform in challenging land environments, using high-performance and independent stabilization and image processing.

Cross-platform integration with the WESCAM MX-GCS MK2

L3Harris’ WESCAM MX-GCS MK2 and can be integrated in manned and unmanned mechanized formations, for both a gunner and commander above-armor sight. Cross-platform communications and targeting are also available via the WESCAM MX-GCS MK2’s available laser payloads. Operators can obtain visual detection, confirm, paint and track targets, and provide that information to additional platforms operating nearby. Providing the advanced detect-identify-track capability, the WESCAM MX-GCS can deliver ground-to-ground and ground-to-air situational understanding across multiple domains.

Increased situational awareness and reconnaissance with the WESCAM MX-10 RSTA

Gunner and commander above-armor sight options also exist for L3Harris’ WESCAM MX-10 RSTA, a system designed for special reconnaissance, surveying and target acquisition missions. The configurable options provide enhanced situational awareness in a multitude of field applications, including force protection, cross-platform communications and targeting. The WESCAM MX-10 RSTA also provides soldiers the capability to dismount the system as needed for use off-platform in different configurations based on operator need or critical mission requirements. Mounted to a telescopic mast for mobile and static surveillance, the WESCAM MX-10 RSTA was selected as a key element in the intelligence gathering solution for L3Harris’ new VAMPIRE solution, providing long-range state-of-the-art reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition capabilities.

Tested in live environments

L3Harris puts every system to the test in both simulated and live scenarios, ensuring they meet the strictest standards and most demanding environmental requirements. In recent field tests, operators assessed the systems through various scenarios, including identifying persons and vehicles at a distance through smoke and under various weather conditions. Using the integrated medium wave infrared (MWIR) camera, targets are easily seen despite the presence of heavy smoke. In addition, the blended short-wave infrared (SWIR) and MWIR cameras provided a thoroughly detailed scene to identify both the vehicle and unique environmental features.

Improving operator safety

Combining L3Harris’ state-of-the-art infrared cameras and laser range finding with high-performance stabilization and cross-platform communication not only improves situational awareness, but ultimately reduces operator workload, allowing them to focus on carrying out their mission objectives. Further technology advancements from L3Harris’ engineering teams are set to increase Detect, Recognize and Identify (DRI) ranges through new generations of our WESCAM MX-Series systems. The ability to See First and Act First gives operators a major strategic and tactical advantage at the most critical moments, when seconds count.

XM30 integration of next-generation WESCAM MX-series EO/IR systems

L3Harris is part of a team of innovative defense industry leaders, known as Team Lynx, which has developed a future ground vehicle to provide U.S. Army warfighters with the advantages they need on the battlefield. Known as the XM30, L3Harris components provide the next-generation fighting vehicle enhanced capabilities to achieve strategic overmatch against peer threats.

In the smallest form-factor possible, L3Harris’ latest generation of WESCAM MX-Series independent stabilized sight systems extend and enhance the identification capabilities of the XM30. The low profile of the EO/IR imaging systems also significantly reduce the enemy’s identification ability on the battlefield. Additionally, on-board processing supports AI and sensor fusion for reduced operator workload and improved

Whether it be the integration of multi-spectral and multi-sensor EO/IR imaging and targeting sensor systems at forward operating bases, or the wider support of mission equipment packages on board tactical ground vehicles, L3Harris is advancing missions with next-generation, ground-based capabilities.

Designed to enhance the mission performance of all classes of land vehicles, L3Harris’ WESCAM MX-Series of EO/IR land sights are industry leaders in observation, resolution, magnification, stabilization and precision.
