The new systems replace legacy Terma radars that have been in service for over two decades, significantly improving Sweden’s maritime domain awareness. SCANTER 5202 provides high-resolution detection of small surface vessels and low-flying aerial threats, supporting faster and more accurate decision-making in complex environments.
“These radars represent a vital step forward in strengthening Sweden’s maritime domain awareness,” said Thomas Blom, Senior Vice President of Terma Surveillance & Mission Systems. “In today’s unpredictable security landscape, high-performance surveillance systems like the SCANTER 5202 are critical to national resilience.”
The upgraded radar incorporates advanced features including built-in cybersecurity, jamming detection, and real-time tracking through Terma’s Edge Tracker. FMV’s decision to proceed follows years of rigorous testing, with the SCANTER series demonstrating proven reliability, cost efficiency, and long-term supportability.
This delivery underscores Terma’s role as a trusted defence partner to Sweden, capable of delivering complex projects at scale while continuing to meet commitments to other customers. The project reflects the strengthening of a long-standing defence relationship between Sweden and Terma.
