The contract includes technical system support, spare parts, repairs, training, and other maintenance services required to sustain Gripen flight operations. “This contract extension means that we will continue to ensure a very high availability for Gripen and deliver the support the Swedish Air Force needs to maintain a high level of readiness,” said Lars Tossman, head of Saab’s business area Aeronautics.
In parallel, the Swedish Government has announced additional investments to enhance the capabilities of the JAS 39 Gripen combat air system. These include the procurement of spare parts, mission equipment, and base equipment to boost operational flexibility and readiness.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the upgrades will enable the Swedish Air Force to deploy across a greater number of air bases and operate effectively from temporary road bases. The government states that “the resilience of the Swedish Air Force will thus increase, enabling it to act with high mission frequency in times of peace, crisis and war.”
