Sweden orders Giraffe 4A radar systems from Saab for enhanced air surveillance

Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for its Giraffe 4A radar systems and related services. The contract, valued at approximately SEK 1.4 billion, will see deliveries take place between 2026 and 2027.

 

The Giraffe 4A radar will enhance Sweden’s ground-based air surveillance with a mobile and modern sensor system. It supports software-based updates, ensuring long-term adaptability to evolving operational requirements.

“We are proud to continue to support the Swedish Armed Forces by an important piece of the puzzle in the new sensor system program and thereby Swedish national defence,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, Head of Business Area Surveillance at Saab. “Giraffe 4A strengthens Sweden’s mid-range sensor capability and make for a long-term capability development.”

 

 

The Giraffe 4A is a multi-functional radar designed to deliver a range of capabilities across domains. It can identify and track a high number of objects simultaneously, making it suitable for air and sea surveillance as well as military air traffic control.
