Sweden selects Lockheed Martin TPY-4 long-range radar to strengthen national defence

By Defence Industry Europe

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has chosen the TPY-4 radar system from American defence company Lockheed Martin to enhance its long-range air surveillance capabilities. This decision makes Sweden the third country to adopt the fifth-generation radar platform.

The TPY-4 radar will be delivered starting in 2027 to support the Swedish Air Force’s national defence objectives. The system is designed to detect and track airborne threats in real-time, providing a significant operational advantage.

“The TPY-4 radar represents a significant leap forward in integrated deterrence, enhancing interoperability with NATO allies,” said Rick Cordaro, vice president of Radar and Sensor Systems at Lockheed Martin. He added, “We are honoured to support the defence and security of our allied nations.”

Featuring an open architecture design, the radar can be integrated easily with existing air defence systems. This compatibility will improve coordination between the Swedish Armed Forces, regional partners, and NATO allies.

Lockheed Martin brings extensive experience in delivering advanced radar technology, with systems deployed in over 45 countries across six continents. Its radars offer capabilities in early warning, counter-target acquisition, situational awareness, and integrated air and missile defence.
