Sweden signs contract with BAE Systems Bofors to supply Archer howitzers and Arthur radars to Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed an agreement with BAE Systems Bofors to deliver 18 additional Archer artillery systems and five Arthur counter-battery radar systems to Ukraine. These systems are part of Sweden’s 18th military aid package to Ukraine, valued at approximately three billion Swedish kronor.

Sweden had previously donated eight Archer artillery systems to Ukraine to support its defence efforts. With this new delivery, Ukraine will receive a total of 26 Archer units, significantly enhancing its firepower and battlefield capabilities.

The package also includes the Arthur artillery-locating radar system, which can detect and track enemy artillery fire. By identifying the origin and trajectory of incoming projectiles, the system improves Ukraine’s ability to respond to threats effectively.

In addition to this delivery, Sweden will participate in an international artillery coalition aimed at further strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities. This collaboration reflects Sweden’s ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine in its efforts to enhance national security.

Deliveries of the Arthur radar systems are scheduled to begin in 2025, while the Archer artillery systems will be supplied starting in 2026. These contributions are expected to improve Ukraine’s long-range precision strike capabilities and overall defence resilience.
