Bundeswehr orders 40mm ammunition for grenade launchers from Rheinmetall

The German Bundeswehr has placed two separate orders with Rheinmetall for production and supply of 40mm ammunition for automatic grenade launchers.

At the International Armoured Vehicles conference held from January 23-25 in London, the German Armed Forces presented their vision for the future land combat system, the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS). The presentation was led by Colonel Armin Dirks, Head of Operations for the MGCS Combined Project Team within the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw).

At the International Armoured Vehicles conference, the German Armed Forces presented their vision for the future land combat system, the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS).

LANCO was awarded a new framework agreement by the Bundeswehr. "We will be the proud suppliers of the Einheitszelt type II legacy tent, already in use by the German Aarmed Forces since the 1990s," the company said.

LANCO, a renowned supplier in the military and civil defence sectors, has been awarded a significant framework agreement by the Bundeswehr.

During Timber Express 2023, ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH supported the Bundeswehr in testing all forms of tactical data links between the participating entities and was thus able to contribute to the success of the exercise. Among other things, the ESG tested the connection between the Joint Terminal Attack Controllers, equipped with the ESG software EAGLE2 for digitally-aided close air support, to various weapon systems such as the Tiger attack helicopter or the H145M special forces helicopter. Further link connections were implemented via the Link 16 network as a radio network and as a “wire network protocol” with the Joint Fire Support multi-link gateway. ESG took part in the exercise as part of the projects “Dismounted Joint Fire Support Team”, “Joint Fire Support multi-link gateway” and “Joint Fire Support Coordination Group” to support the system users.

The German Bundeswehr has contracted with Rheinmetall to produce and supply medium-calibre ammunition for the Puma infantry fighting vehicle. A call-off from an existing framework agreement, the order encompasses several hundred thousand rounds of 30mm x 173 DM21 service ammunition. The order is worth over EUR 350 million, including value added tax. Once perfect functionality has been demonstrated, delivery will begin this year and continue through to 2027.

The German Bundeswehr has contracted with Rheinmetall to produce and supply medium-calibre ammunition for the Puma infantry fighting vehicle.

The Bundeswehr has awarded Rheinmetall a substantial order for decoy flares for protecting aircraft. The German military can now procure over 470,000 decoys from Rheinmetall’s tried-and-tested Birdie product line. Covering the period December 2023 to December 2029, the contract is worth nearly EUR 50 million.

The Bundeswehr has awarded Rheinmetall a substantial order for decoy flares for protecting aircraft. The German military can now procure over 470,000 decoys from Rheinmetall’s tried-and-tested Birdie product line.

The two reflector satellites of the SARah reconnaissance system were successfully launched on December 24 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA. SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Launchpad SLC-4E at 14:11 CET and deployed its two passengers in space on schedule after a flight time of 25 minutes. Shortly afterwards, the first signals from the two satellites were received. This has kicked-off the so-called Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP), during which the satellites will be booted up system by system and checked for functionality. The satellites are also manoeuvred into their final orbits during this phase.

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) participated in the NH90 Flight Simulator inauguration ceremony at the Nordholz Naval Airbase in Germany (Fliegerhorst Nordholz). This event marked an important milestone as the project to deliver a new training capability on NH90 Sea Lion helicopters for the German Navy has entered the final phase. The achievement was celebrated alongside representatives from CAE, the awarded company, a delegation from the Federal Office of Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the German Ministry of Defence (BAAINBw) and the German Navy.

The tech enterprise Rheinmetall and the European aeronautics and space company Airbus have transferred an A400M cargo hold simulator to the Bundeswehr’s 62nd Air Transport Squadron (LTG 62) at Wunstorf in Lower Saxony. The Cargo Hold Part Task Trainer (CPTT) complements existing simulators and training systems at the German Air Force’s A400M Training Centre. In Wunstorf, cargo hold crews already train (among other things) on the advanced Cargo Hold Trainer Enhanced (CHT-E).

Rheinmetall and Airbus have transferred an A400M cargo hold simulator to the Bundeswehr’s 62nd Air Transport Squadron (LTG 62) at Wunstorf in Lower Saxony.

The German Bundeswehr and Airbus Helicopters have signed a contract for the purchase of up to 82 multi-role H145M helicopters (62 firm orders plus 20 options). This is the largest order ever placed for the H145M and consequently the largest for the HForce weapon management system. The contract also includes seven years of support and services, ensuring optimal entry into service. The German Army will receive fifty-seven helicopters, while the Luftwaffe's special forces will receive five.
