Royal Marines have fired mortar rounds into the Arctic sky as intensive mission rehearsals continue in Northern Norway, where around 1,500 UK Commandos have been deployed inside the Arctic Circle as part of NATO efforts to protect the alliance’s Nordic nations.
The three-year firm fixed-price contract includes the build and delivery of the vehicles along with one year of spare parts support. The vehicles are intended to strengthen Ukraine’s military by improving ground mobility and defensive capabilities. As part of their ongoing development, the Commandos are trialling advanced equipment, including the L403 rifle, which is designed to enhance combat effectiveness in extreme cold weather.
