Germany has a new defence minister: SPD politician and former interior minister of Lower Saxony, Boris Pistorius, will succeed the outgoing incumbent, Christine Lambrecht. Pistorius said that he had “humility and respect for such a daunting task”. Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasised that Pistorius had a great deal of experience in security policy and had already worked very openly and closely with the Bundeswehr. The previous Defence Minister Lambrecht had announced her resignation after just over a year in office.
