Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby urged allies to build a “NATO 3.0” based on “partnership rather than dependency” as he represented the United States at a NATO defense ministers’ meeting in Brussels, while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was absent. The meeting marked only the second time in recent history that a Pentagon chief did not attend, following a February 2024 session when then-Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin participated virtually due to hospitalization.
