The European Defence Agency hosted Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal, alongside shipbuilders, on 15 January to discuss the design, needs and next steps for a future European Combat Vessel, a new family of frigates. The meeting followed a letter of intent signed in late 2024, as Europe’s navies face ageing fleets, outdated technologies and increasingly congested maritime environments.
