Finnish fighter jets land on Bornholm for training exercise

Finnish F/A-18 fighter jets have landed on the Danish island of Bornholm as part of a training exercise with the Royal Danish Air Force.

Patria acquires an open source data collection product and business related to its cyber business area from WithSecure. As a result of the transaction, Patria will open an office in Oulu and 10 WithSecure experts currently working in the business area will join the company. The parties do not disclose the value of the acquisition.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are reportedly operating 2S1 Gvozdika 122-mm self-propelled artillery systems donated by Finland.

From August 19 to 22, 2024, the Finnish Air Force organized a Joint Fires training event that focused on enhancing the interoperability of Allied F-35 fighter jets with Finnish Army and Navy weapon systems. This event was part of Finland's ongoing efforts to integrate its defence capabilities with those of its NATO allies, particularly in relation to the F-35 program.

Finnish defence company Patria is set to participate in Denmark’s largest defence industry exhibition, DALO Industry Days.

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has taken delivery of the first batch of GTP-type armoured vehicles from Finnish supplier Sisu Oy. Bittium supplies the Estonian Defence Forces with more products enabling next-generation tactical communications. The product deliveries continue the reform that aims to improve IP data transfer capability of the Estonian Land Forces. Bittium has already previously supplied a tactical communications system to be included as a part of a bigger system entity. Product deliveries related to the tactical communications system were started in the year 2016. Bittium’s tactical communications system modernizes the Estonian Land Forces’ data transfer, improves the performance of the network, and diversifies the wireless and wired connectivity of the system entity used by the Estonian Defence Forces.

Patria has signed a Life Cycle Management (LCM) contract with Finland and Latvia for the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, based on Patria 6x6 vehicle. Patria has signed a Life Cycle Management (LCM) contract with Finland and Latvia for the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, based on Patria 6×6 vehicle.

The Finnish Air Force’s first major NATO deployment to Romania succeeded as planned and achieved its objectives. F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets returned to Finland on 29 July 2024.

NATO’s Combined Air Operation Centre at Uedem, Germany, reported two Russian fighter aircraft flying over international waters in the Baltic Sea from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia on July 15. The aircraft were also tracked by Finnish and Swedish air operation centres, and both Allies launched their quick reaction alert (QRA) forces to intercept the Russian military aircraft. These were not on a flight plan, not in radio contact with civilian air traffic control and did not use a transponder signal as customary under international aviation rules.
