U.S. Navy cancels costly HALO hypersonic missile programme, shifts to LRASM

The U.S. Navy has announced the cancellation of its Hypersonic Air-Launched Offensive (HALO) missile development programme, citing high costs as the primary reason.

Raytheon, an RTX business, has successfully completed a technical review and a seamless prototype fit-check in phase one of the U.S. Navy's Hypersonic Air Launched Offensive Anti-Surface (HALO) program. HALO is a carrier-based high-speed missile that will allow the Navy to operate in and control contested battlespaces in anti-access/area denial environments and will support their long-range fires strategy.

Raytheon, an RTX business, has successfully completed a technical review and a seamless prototype fit-check in phase one of the U.S. Navy’s Hypersonic Air Launched Offensive Anti-Surface (HALO) program.

The U.S. Navy awarded two contracts to Raytheon Missiles and Defense and Lockheed Martin March 27 for the initial development for a carrier suitable long range, high speed missile designated Hypersonic Air Launched Offensive Anti-Surface (HALO).
