Italy’s parliament has approved an almost €9 billion funding plan for the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), a joint fighter jet project with Britain and Japan whose projected early-phase costs have more than tripled from initial estimates. The defence committee of the lower house gave final backing to a government proposal to commit €8.77 billion for the programme’s initial stages through 2037, according to a parliamentary document.

The Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles joint venture has delivered the first four Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicles to the Italian Army at the Multifunctional Experimentation Centre (Ce.Poli.Spe) in Montelibretti, officially launching the A2CS programme. The handover follows an initial contract signed at the end of last year for the acquisition of 21 A2CS Combat vehicles.
