Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 242 (VMFA-242), known as “The Bats”, marked its 82nd anniversary on 1 July 2025 with a commemorative flyover above the USS America (LHA 6) in the Coral Sea. The flyover featured U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II aircraft assigned to VMFA-242, part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).
