MBDA, a European leader in missile technology, has taken a significant step forward in air defence with the successful first firing of the Aster B1NT (New Technology) interceptor. The test took place on 8th October 2024 at the Biscarrosse DGA missile testing facility in France and was conducted by the French General Directorate of Armaments (DGA). The event was attended by key figures, including French Minister of Armed Forces and Veteran Affairs Sébastien Lecornu, alongside representatives from France, Italy, and the UK, who are involved in the Principal Anti Air Missile Systems (PAAMS) cooperation.

A successful test of the Aster 30 B1 New Technology (B1NT) missile has been carried out at the DGA Essais de Missiles firing range in Biscarrosse. This event represents a significant advancement for the SAMP/T New Generation (SAMP/T NG) air defence system, a collaborative project between France and Italy. The missile was developed by Eurosam, a joint venture formed by MBDA France, MBDA Italy, and Thales.

During the Second European Air and Missile Defence Conference, French Minister of Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu confirmed a new contract for the production of seven additional SAMP/T NG (Surface-to-Air Missile Platform/Terrain - New Generation) systems for the French Air and Space Force. The contract, facilitated through OCCAR-EA, marks the transition to full-scale serial production for the advanced air defence system. This follows previous orders for Italy's Air Force in July 2023 and the Italian Army earlier in 2024.
